L’Araba Fenice

is an artisan workshop situated at Gioiosa Marea, limits of Messina,

producing artefacts by using the traditional Sicilian loom, such as carpets, tapestries, cushions, bags,

scarfs, bedspread, curtains, towels, wedding souvenir,  which are, at times, completed by a frame

either worked by crochet, tatting, embroidery, cross stitch,

crochet fork, tunisian crochet or hand-painted

The Manual Loom, undoubtedly created by the Egyptians, was improved

by the Greeks and then spread throughout the world

Notwithstanding the creation of the mechanical loom, it still remained in use,

and nowadays it is a form of art and widespread tradition

It brings to mind old workshops, mediaeval ballades, grandma's chest

The appeal of the variety of weaves, shapes and colours, keeps alive the interest

for traditional artisan products and the desire to return to the past

L'Araba Fenice ….

Everyone says it is present, but nobody knows where it is

Its appearance signals the start of a new era,

it brings about peace and prosperity, and it is the symbol of immortality

What it has in common with the loom is its birth place, Egypt,

and the country where it was first spread, namely, Greece

According to the legend, after having existed for 500 years,

the effect of the rays of the sun first ignited bringing it to ashes,

and then revived it within three days

Originally an Egyption symbol of the Sun God's soul,

it became the philosopher's stone for magicians,

it symbolised the identification of Christ for Christians ,

and a sacred symbol for the Chinese,

but always portrayed by a splendid plumage

comprising the five fundamental colours, green, red, yellow, white and black
